With a strong focus on self-defense, Alliance’s fundamental program incorporates the same jiu jitsu first taught at the original Gracie academy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil during the 1960’s. The class is designed to prepare students for both self-defense, and sport jiu jitsu while at the same time improving cardiovascular endurance, balance, and coordination. The fundamental program is designed for anyone, male or female, of any body type, or age (16 and over).

The class quickly prepares students for Alliance’s world renown advanced program, and gives students a sturdy base of knowledge that they will put to practice throughout their jiu jitsu study. Class format consists of the following; a light warm-up, 2-3 techniques are shown, and finally several drills are performed. The drills are Alliance’s secret to successful teaching, and are equivalent to sparing for beginners, but are done with little resistance to reinforce proper technique.

There is very little, to no full-contact sparring in the fundamental class. Our founders, Romero “Jacare” Cavalcanti and Fabio Gurgel believe this is key in the evolution of beginning jiu jitsu students. Students with no grappling experience are asked to attend 40-50 fundamental classes, or 2-3 months before attending advanced classes.

Pre-requisite course: Intro class

After being awarded with your 3rd stripe of your white belt, the student will be able to attend the intermediate program; in parallel the student will still be able to continue the fundamentals program. This is a very exciting part of your training. Attempting to submit your training partners as they resist and counter act with their on moves is a real as it gets! You will drastically improve your conditioning, strength and confidence. You will drill and work with more experience students benefiting your learning journey. Besides moving up in rank and making a big progress towards mastery of the art, this will give you the experience necessary to enter the advanced program.

Pre-requisite course: 3 stripes white belt

Take a more in-depth look at the principles and techniques that define Alliance BJJ efficient and exciting style. Students should have a solid understanding of basic BJJ principles, fluency in technique, and body awareness. Situational attacks, transitions, escapes and strategies are explored, in addition to a strong emphasis on instinctual application through live sparring. This class is perfect for professional MMA fighters, hobbyists, and students who wish to focus on the sport/competition aspect of jiu jitsu.

The class is highly organized but also family oriented. We find that some of our students spent almost as much time at Alliance than they do with their own families. Because of this, Alliance focuses on providing a safe, and friendly atmosphere.

Nogi Jiu-Jitsu

Our famous Nogi class is perfect for grapplers of all levels. Focused on takedowns, arm-drags, high percentage submissions and precise guard passing; this class has a similar format as our advanced BJJ class.

Required apparel
- Grappling or MMA shorts with no pockets;
- Short sleeve or long sleeve rash guard;
- Mouth and groin protection optional.

Muay Thai

Muay Thai, also known as the art of eight limbs due to the fact that it utilizes a combination of fists, elbows, knees, shins and feet in striking. It is a highly effective stand up style that started in 16th century Thailand as an art of war and has become popular as a ring sport. In recent years, due to the efficiency and effectiveness for both close quarters fighting and clinch work, Muay Thai can be learned as an art, sport or for fitness and is for people of all ages, fitness and experience levels; whether you are a first time student or an experienced veteran, there is a class for you.

Open Mat

Open Mat is a non-instructional class where students may practice the application of technique through independent drilling and timed sparring matches. Students are encouraged to conceptualize their strengths and weaknesses, and to work on internalizing what they learned throughout the week. Guidance by instructors is available.
